After somehow managing to keep hold of their top scorer Christian Benteke, who has started this season in similarly devastating fashion, things began to look up for Paul Lambert’s men who started the season with a shock away win at the Emirates. However, a brief look at their ‘in’ column reveals a distinct lack of high calibre signings, their most expensive of which was a 7 million pound deadline day signing of Czech striker Libor Kozak, who, may I add, failed to score a single goal in Italy for the entirety of last season. It was simply an underwhelming window for those over at Villa Park, with former starters Barry Bannan and Darren Bent departing the club, they could very easily find themselves in another relegation scrap if they do not maintain this run of early season form.

Grade: C-

Paul Lambert has added some competition another decent striker, as well as full back Antonio Luna, who scored on his debut against Arsenal, however, his side lacks depth and will struggle to keep up form for the whole season.
