Fulham find themselves in a spot of
bother this season, after comfortably securing a mid-table position last term
they have been rather underwhelming in their first three fixtures, securing
just the one win over Paolo Di Canio’s hapless Sunderland. Manager Martin Jol
has signed Spurs midfielder Scott Parker and QPR showboater Adel Taarabt,
strengthening his midfield, however holes persist in his defence despite the
signing of Athletic Bilbao’s centre back Fernando Amorebieta. These signings
are nothing all that special, and if it weren’t for the ineptitude of some
other sides, I would be billing Fulham as real relegation candidates. Jol needs
to work some magic with a side which has the raw talent to succeed but will
need to gel in a big way if they are to feel comfort away from the bottom three
this season.
Grade: C+
The signing of Darren Bent will ease
the pressure on Dimitar Berbatov, and Taarabt should provide a spark in the
midfield, but gaps in defence persist, something Jol must address.
